We've got at least 8 brave souls coming to Alaska next month to share in the fun and adventure of an arctic winter. The aurora borealis has been very active this past week. Part of each day's forecast in the newspaper includes a prediction for the night skies, so we pay close attention. Pay no mind to the temperatures; they're supposed to go up by about 30 degrees next week!
Also, the Yukon Quest race registration is up to 27 mushers who will be competing to win the 2016 title. That's 1000 miles, from Fairbanks to Whitehorse, Yukon in some crazy harsh conditions. Now that it's prime mushing season, you see alot of these vehicles around town. And speaking of harsh conditions, I've had a lot of questions about winter attire. Here's Cat Herder's typical, outdoor get-up below: down coat, down skirt, neck gaiter, hat, moosehide mukluks. This is the lighter of my two coats (it was only -7 yesterday!). Photo taken at Hoodoo Brewery, home to Cat Herder's favoritest IPA.

So glad you have those 8 folks. It sounds wonderful, but I just freeze all year long so to make it up there in January... Have a great time, I'm sure you will.

We're up to 10 now--fun, fun, fun! Sounds like Florida is more your style in January. Enjoy your trip!
