Dear CEO Evaluation Team:
Just last week I told a friend: “I wish I could wave a wand and have the perfect job opportunity appear.” Days later, an article from the Kansas City Star, advertising your Chief Exploration Officer position, landed in my inbox.
You should know that my experience doesn’t often “fit the boxes” of today’s run-of-the-mill job application, having been a small business owner—and my own boss—for the past 20 years. However, what you should also know is that those two decades were spent researching, visiting, and guiding tourists to the National Parks. In short: I’m a Park Junkie, who enjoys beer, who also owns a Class B adventure-mobile. It is my hope that my experience fits your exciting—and anything but run-of-the-mill—job opportunity.
My greatest strength as a guide is providing a National Park experience that is more intimate than a typical tourist visit. To me that means: get off the pavement, overnight in a historic lodge, and build in plenty of spare time to wander a random trail, attend a Ranger talk, rent a Jeep to explore the backcountry, or direct people to the perfect spot for an amazing sunset photo. The work was hard but the satisfaction high because I sent those individuals home with memories and photos to last a lifetime. In fact, I was once told that my job title should rightfully be: Chief Memory Maker.
Our tour itineraries included National Parks from Mexico (Parque Nacional Barrancas del Cobre) to Alaska (Denali and Wrangell-St. Elias), however our most visited Parks were in the western United States. I am, therefore, familiar with both the largest park areas such as Grand Canyon, Arches, and Death Valley, for instance, as well as the smaller, lesser known gems like Lassen, Devil’s Postpile, and Parashant.
That’s a bit about me; now let’s talk Michelob ULTRA Pure Gold. I can imagine no easier promotional effort than marketing your organic beer, visiting the Parks, and conveying to an already-engaged audience just how incredible it all is. Serving up the benefits of a tasty, earth-friendly, readily-available beer that the health-conscious consumer can feel good about drinking seems like a cinch. There is much evidence to support limiting our “carb-sumption”, and your Pure Gold line hits the mark with fine taste, tender ecological footprint, and minimal counts on the carb and calorie index.
Note that the portfolio field links to two websites: my tour business and a blog site that I maintained during the two years I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska. As for Instagram, that account was only set up this past week with your job in mind. I’ve not officially “launched” myself there yet, pending the outcome of this position. This would be a baggage-free Instagram account that you could shape and tailor to your specific needs, and I will bring along a heap of followers.
I look forward to hearing from you, and hope that I will be your future Chief Exploration Officer.
Sincerely,
Marisa L. Fay
