Nothing like a clear, smooth day to fly over Utah canyon country and Monument Valley. (See flight track her.) Another Parkwest-style full day with an afternoon visit to the Petrified Forest/Painted Desert National Park and historic walking tour with the Winslow Harvey Girls at La Posada Hotel. Tomorrow, we will try to make a quick stop at THE corner in Winslow, Arizona before leaving town.

Boy did we pack in the hot, summer fun today! The morning was spent rafting down the Colorado River: two rafts and a duckie. The water was warm, the birds plentiful, and the rapids kind. Best of all, we got off the river before the temperature reached 100! After lunch and siestas, we headed into Arches National Park for a gorgeous late afternoon of monoliths, arches, leisurely strolls and a jaw-dropping sunset.
We're off to a great start on the Western Rendezvous! With 19 people in 10 airplanes (6 Cessnas, 2 Bonanzas, a Mooney and a Seneca), the adventure has officially begun. Tomorrow we start by exploring beautiful, funky Moab--first via raft down the Colorado River, then later by tour bus inside Arches National Park. Gotta love this tourist town, shaped by Native Americans, Mormons, uranium miners, hard-core athletes and not just a few hippies. We pilots are pretty boring around here, as bicycles and Jeeps (not planes) rule! This Cat Herder goes to work today, keeping together 19 cats in 10 aircraft over the next 10 days. We are very much looking forward to seeing all our flying friends in Moab, Utah! Don't be late to the briefing at 3:00! :)
