Pilots from outside the United States will need a US pilot certificate in order to fly a Parkwest aircraft. Foreign-licensed pilots from ICAO contracting countries will be issued a US pilot's license upon presentation at a FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO.) A US license is not required for foreign pilots bringing and flying their own aircraft.
Certificate Transfer Procedures: In order to obtain a US pilot's certificate, you must visit a FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO.) Unfortunately, there is no FSDO in Grand Junction, so you will need to plan some extra time before you arrive in Grand Junction to visit them. The FAA maintains many FSDO's around the country (see directory), however Denver or Salt Lake City might be the most convenient, as you might need to travel through one of those cities to get to Grand Junction (if arriving by air).
Pilots applying for a US certificate issued on the basis of a foreign license under the provisions of 14 CFR Part 61, Section 61.75, must have the validity and currency of their foreign license and medical certificate verified 90 days before making application for a US certificate at the FSDO. To get this verification, you must submit the required information on a form developed by the FAA Airmen Certification Branch. (Click here to download the required verification form.) In addition to the verification form, the following documentation must be submitted:
| · |
A legible copy of all pages of the foreign pilot license. |
| · |
A legible English transcription of the foreign pilot license, if the license is not in English. |
| · |
A legible copy of the foreign medical license/endorsement, as appropriate. |
| · |
A legible photocopy of a driver's license or passport or other picture identification. |

* Special information for UK Pilots *
In order for the CAA to comply with UK data sharing laws, you will also have to fill out a CAA form SRG1160, authorizing them to provide information to the FAA. Send it to the CAA at the same time you submit your application to the FAA.
When verification of your certificate is received from your home country aviation authority, the FAA will provide you with written notification that a copy of that verification has been forwarded to the Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) you designated in your request. PLEASE PROVIDE PARKWEST A COPY OF THIS VERIFICATION. The verification is valid for 6 months. You may make application for a U.S. pilot certificate at the designated FSDO during that 6-month period.
When you visit the FSDO to get your US certificate, you will be required to present the application form (FAA Form 8710), your logbook, foreign pilot certificate, medical certificate, and the notification of verification that you received in the mail. Note that English language translations of your certificates are required; the translations must be signed by an official of your foreign aviation authority. You will be issued a VFR-only license with the same restrictions as your home-country license. No written or flight test is required. Contact us (or click here) for more information regarding FAA certification in the US.
Flying in the US:
Once you have your US certificate in hand, you must meet the currency and recency of experience requirements stated in the Federal Air Regulations before flying a US registered aircraft. This will consist of taking a Flight Review as required by 14 CFR 61.56(c). A Flight Review consists of both ground and flight instruction. Parkwest personnel will arrange for your Flight Review, but we request that you arrive in Grand Junction at least one day ahead of the tour start date so we can accomplish this. The Flight Review will be at additional cost; it should cost under US$200, depending on your experience and currency level.
